Donna's Country Kitchen & Kristen's Homemade Preserves
Meet two of our bakers and canners!
“This whole entrepreneur story started with Kristen’s younger sister in the 4th grade needing $30 dollars for a school trip. Instead of just being given the funds she had to earn it by making jam with the help of her mom. She made her money and filled her high demand orders but wasn’t looking to go any farther with her jam making as a business so she offered the opportunity to Kristen.
Kristen was in grade 8 at the time and needed to raise $1000 dollars to go to an Ace Convention/Competition so she kindly obliged! She not only raised what she needed, attended the competition, and placed at the top of multiple events, she was able to start fund raising for a second convention as well as her post secondary education.
Kristen placed again in multiple events at the second convention and fully funded two years of her college studies! With the help of some retired friends, Kristen started selling jam on the front lawn on a busy residential street in Saskatoon and the start of her business was born. It was not long after, Kristen became a vendor in a local farmer’s market.
Donna (Kristens Mother) started making mini banana loaves to add variety to the table.
Before we knew it, we had a full table of preserves and baking made just like Grandma made it. To this day all our products are made from scratch with “ingredients you can pronounce”. Since these early beginnings, the demand for Donna's homemade baking and Kristen’s homemade preserves continued to increase.
Donna and Kristen have been able to partner together to grow each of their passions to maintain the legacy and enable others to enjoy the memories and traditional tastes from Grandma’s kitchen. Together they are featured in multiple Farmer’s Markets in Saskatoon and many craft and trade shows across Saskatchewan.“
